Statement of Rights

Community Living - North Frontenac recognizes that all people are born with inherent rights as a citizen in Ontario, Canada and the World. It is for this reason that we recognize the Canadian Charter of Rights & Freedoms and the UN Convention of Rights of Persons with disabilities.

Service Excellence

Service Principles

 We Will:

  1. Provide support that empowers vulnerable people of all ages, in particular those who have an intellectual disability.
  2. Get to know people and their families, what their wants and needs are, and present choices. Respond to their requests as much as possible for things that are valuable to the individual. 
  3. Provide individualized services in a respectful, competent, and friendly manner that encourages continual growth, development, and independence.
  4. Provide information and education that supports individuals to make informed decisions. 
  5. Support people with intellectual disabilities in the community by providing opportunities for everyday living that will promote a desired way of life.
  6. Provide service to access community opportunity at the level and frequency that the individual desires. 
  7. Enable individuals through advocacy and education to exercise their rights, freedoms, and opportunities for self-determination.
  8. Provide educational opportunity on a person centered and individual basis at a level that meets their situation and basis of experience. (get to know the person first and what is important to them)
  9. Promote and support lasting family relationships and friendships in natural environments.
  10. Ensure that relationships are built with family as well as the person served. Support individuals to acknowledge family and friends, i.e., birthdays and holiday, specials events.
  11. Provide meaningful interactions for persons with intellectual disabilities that will include employment experience, education, and integration in both their home and community.
  12. Determine by way of the relationship what is meaningful to the individual. Offer new opportunities to expand base of experience.
  13. Coordinate the delivery of generic services to persons with an intellectual disability.
  14. Encourage people to choose services of their choice. 
  15. Conduct ongoing evaluation of services so that quality, appropriateness, and availability are maintained and improved.
  16. Evaluate services by communication with individuals and their natural support network by way of regular check.
  17. Ensure cost effectiveness in the use of resources gained from fundraising, government sources, and community contributions.
  18. Confront special characteristics of the rural communities, particularly the isolation and lack of resources that present a predominant barrier to integration.
  19. Use creative methods to maximize access to resources both in and outside of local communities.
  20. Do all things as are incidental and conducive to the attainment of the above objectives.
